KOTA KINABALU: Close contact screening takes more than half of Sabah’s total daily cases of 741 today, with 379 contributing the highest number.

Local Government and Housing Datuk Masidi Manjun said the cumulative total of statewide infections is now 80,931.

"The second highest contributor for the daily caseload is cluster screening with 142 cases, followed by symptomatic screening with 129, 53 cases through targeted screening, and 38 cases from other categories.

"Kota Kinabalu still recorded the highest number of cases with a cumulative total of 149," he said in a press statement today.

Meanwhile, three fatalities were reported with one each in Putatan, Penampang, and Kudat

According to Masidi, 74 per cent of these new cases either exhibit mild symptoms (Category 2) or no symptoms at all (Category 1).

Those in both of these categories are not required to be admitted to hospitals. They are only placed in quarantine centres for further treatment.

"All districts in the state recorded a change in the number of positive Covid-19 cases which continues to increase and it can be concluded there is still a high probability of SOP non-compliance," he added.

As for recoveries, Masidi said a total of 652 discharges were recorded today, bringing the recovery tally in the state to 74,737.

"A total of 3,554 patients are still receiving treatment with 685 at hospitals, 2,740 in quarantine centres, and the rest in the temporary detention centres or prisons.

"80 individuals are currently treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 19 of them requiring ventilator support," he stated.
