SABAH COVID CASES BACK TO THREE DIGITS, KK RECORDS HIGHEST WITH 82

KOTA KINABALU: Covid-19 caseload in Sabah shoots up to triple-digit with 172 cases recorded today with the most recorded in Kota Kinabalu.

The latest addition has brought the cumulative total of statewide infections to 57,164, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

Of the total, 53 were identified from close contacts screening, 90 from existing clusters, 14 from symptomatic screening and 15 from other categories.

Masidi said in his statement today that six more deaths related to the virus were also recorded today, four in Tawau and two in Lahad Datu.

Unexpectedly, Kota Kinabalu reported the highest number of new cases with 82. It was followed by Tawau which recorded 42 cases, Lahad Datu (15), Sandakan and Putatan (six), Kunak (five), Semporna, Kota Belud, and Kalabakan (three), Papar, Tuaran, and Kinabatangan (two), and Nabawan (one).

Aside from the green zone districts such as Tambunan, Tenom, Kota Marudu, Telupid and Tongod, other districts that did not record any new cases are Penampang, Kuala Penyu, Ranau, Kudat, Keningau, Beluran, Beaufort, Sipitang and Pitas.

"The number of active cases now stands at 1,019 with 322 of the patients at the hospitals, including 60 in the intensive care unit with 18 of them ventilated, 632 in the quarantine and low-risk treatment centres, and 65 at the temporary detention centre.

"The cumulative total of recoveries in Sabah is 55,431 to date, including an addition of 70 recoveries reported today," he said.
