117 OUT OF 217 NEW COVID-19 CASES ARE CLOSE CONTACTS - MASIDI

KOTA KINABALU: More than half of new Covid-19 cases reported in Sabah today are detected through close contact screening, which is 117 cases out of 217 of the total.


Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said, a total of 42 cases were detected in existing clusters, 37 through symptomatic screening, 10 through targeted screening, three through ward pre-admittance screening, two through new cluster screening, and the rest from other categories.



The cumulative total of Covid-19 cases in Sabah now stands at 61,274.


Tawau reported the highest number with 51, followed by Kota Kinabalu (22), Penampang (21), Kunak (20), Lahad Datu (16), Keningau (12), Sandakan (12) and Tuaran (10).


Meanwhile, Kuala Penyu recorded eight cases while Kota Belud has seven, six each in Semporna, Beaufort and Kudat, five each in Putatan and Tenom, four in Papar, three in Kinabatangan, and one each in Kalabakan, Sipitang and Pitas.


One Covid-19 death was also reported today in Kunak.



"There are a total of 1,296 active cases as of today with 419 treated at hospitals, 874 in quarantine centres, and three in temporary detention centres.


"A total of 61 individuals are treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 22 requiring ventilator support," he said in a statement today.


Masidi added that a total of 134 patients have recovered and were discharged today, bringing the cumulative total of statewide recoveries to 59,102.
