BODY OF MAN SWEPT AWAY BY CURRENTS IN SUNGAI SARAWAK FOUND

KUCHING: The body of a man who was swept away by strong currents in Sungai Sarawak on Thursday was found at the Sungai Lajim Base here today, about 2.5 km from where he was believed to have gone missing.

A spokesman for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations centre said the body of Awangku Sahiful Awangku Sazali, 33, was found by the search and rescue team at about noon.

"The victim's identity has been confirmed by the family. The body was then handed over to the police for further action," he said in a statement today.

On Thursday, JBPM informed that a woman and a man had been swept away by strong currents in the Sungai Sarawak near the Kubah Ria food court here.

The woman, who was later identified as Zai Erni Zainalabidin, 27, was rescued on the same day, while Awangku Sahiful remained missing till today. -Bernama
