CHARGED FOR KILLING GIRLFRIEND, JEALOUS MAN FACES DEATH PENALTY

KOTA KINABALU: A local man who was arraigned at the Magistrate's Court today faces the possibility of the death penalty after he was charged with murdering his girlfriend for being out with another man.


However, no plea was recorded from the accused, Hartono Janang, as the medical and autopsy reports were still pending.


Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles then set April 12 this year for re-mention of the case.


No bail was allowed against the unrepresented accused.


Earlier, he was accused of killing Kamalia Yussop, 35, a Brunei national from Kampung Sim-Sim, Sandakan on Jan 19 this year. near a garbage dump, behind a hotel in Bandaran Berjaya, here.


The case is read out under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty, if convicted.


Hartono who was found to be positive for syabu was said to be jealous of the deceased for going out with another man. He then punched the deceased repeatedly in the face, causing injuries to the face and head as well as internal bleeding.
