CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS OVER ANWAR'S CLAIM OF MAJORITY MP SUPPORT

KUALA LUMPUR: Following is the chronology of events from the time PKR president and Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced he has majority support of MPs to form a new government up to his audience with the King today:
Sept 23 -- At a press conference, Anwar claims to have “formidable and convincing” support to form a new government to take over from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government led by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
-- He claims to have received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, on Sept 22 for an audience. -- Istana Negara announces that the audience of Anwar and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, with the King has to be postponed because His Majesty is unwell and had to be admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for treatment. -- Muhyiddin emphasises that the PN government remains strong and he is still the prime minister.
-- Muhyiddin asks Anwar to prove his claim of having majority MP support to form a new government through the process determined by the Federal Constitution. -- UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says he has information that several UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs have expressed support for Anwar to form a new government.
Sept 24 -- A poster goes viral that Anwar will take his oath of office as the new prime minister at Istana Negara at 9 am the next day (Sept 25). Sept 25 -- Muhyiddin questions Anwar’s claim that he has majority MP support to form a new government after the latter fails to state the number of MPs who support him without showing statutory declarations (SDs). -- Four UMNO MPs, namely Datuk Hasbullah Osman (Gerik); Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (Putrajaya); Datuk Ahmad Nazlan Idris (Jerantut) and Datuk Seri Hasan Arifin (Rompin) dismiss claims that they are backing Anwar. Oct 8 -- Anwar announces that Al-Sultan Abdullah has consented to grant him an audience on Oct 13. -- Anwar says he will present complete information on his claim of majority MP support at the audience. -- PAS states that its 18 MPs continue to support Muhyiddin as the prime minister and leader of the PN government. Oct 12 -- Anwar’s appointment with Bukit Aman scheduled for Oct 13 over an investigation into the circulation of a list of names of 121 MPs allegedly backing him to form a new government is postponed to another date. Oct 13 -- Anwar has an audience with His Majesty, arriving at Istana Negara at 10.25 am and leaving at 11.30 am. -- At a press conference later, Anwar states he has presented to the King documents authenticating formidable and convincing support for him from a majority of MPs. -- Anwar claims to have the support of over 120 MPs in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat (House of Representatives). -- Anwar also claims that the King will summon party leaders for their input to verify documents he has garnered backing him. -- Istana Negara, in a statement, says Anwar presented the number of MPs allegedly supporting him to form a new government but did not provide a list of their names. -- The palace says Al-Sultan Abdullah advised Anwar to abide by and respect the legal process as enshrined in the Federal Constitution. -- Veteran UMNO leader and Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is seen leaving Istana Negara at 2.40 pm. - Bernama
