COVID-19: 97 NEW CASES IN SABAH, MOSTLY CLOSE CONTACTS

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 97 new Covid-10 cases were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of statewide infections to 53,313.
In a press statement, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said 49 of the new cases (50.5 per cent) today stemmed from close contacts.
"A total of 24 cases (24.8 per cent) stemmed from new and existing clusters while seven cases (7.2 per cent) each recorded from symptomatic and targeted screenings, and 10 more cases (10.3 per cent) from other categories," he said.
Nabawan recorded the highest number of new cases with 24, followed by Keningau (22), Kota Kinabalu (nine), Kunak (eight), Ranau (eight), Kota Marudu (six), Kalabakan (five), Beluran (three), Sandakan, Tawau and Kota Belud each with two cases, and Kudat, Penampang, Papar, Putatan, Kinabatangan and Tenom each with one case.
A total of 10 districts did not register new case today, namely Lahad Datu, Kuala Penyu, Semporna, Sipitang, Pitas, Tuaran, Tambunan, Beaufort, Telupid and Tongod.
Meanwhile, a total of 95 patients have recovered and were discharged, bringing the tally of recoveries in Sabah to 51,964.
"A total of 686 patients are currently receiving treatment with 248 in the hospitals, 431 in Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres and seven in temporary detention centres.
"Twenty-eight patients are warded in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 14 of them requiring ventilator support," Masidi stated.
