Covid-19: Community cluster detected in Lahad Datu

KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster has been registered in Lahad Datu known as the Sawit Baiduri cluster involving a community infection in Felda Sahabat.

Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Masidi Manjun said that the index case of the cluster is a 47-year-old Indonesian man who tested positive on Aug 11 after exhibiting symptoms a day prior.

“Among those who tested positive through close contact screening are 77 individuals, including 43 new cases today. This includes the index case’s children and family members,” he said in a statement today.

According to Masidi, the cause of infection is still being investigated, however, initial investigation found that a wedding ceremony that was held on Aug 6 could be the source.

He also revealed that the index case is the bride’s father.
