COVID-19: NEW CLUSTERS INVOLVE BEAUFORT, SANDAKAN AND KK

KOTA KINABALU: Two new Covid-19 clusters were reported in Sabah today, involving Beaufort, Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu districts.


Local Goverment and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the clusters are known as the Balibata Cluster and the South KKIP Cluster.


He said the Balibata cluster detected three new cases in Beaufort and Sandakan, bringinig the total positive cases for the cluster to 35.


"The index case for this cluster was detected during the interstate crossing from Sabah to the peninsula on Jan 11. The index case attended a funeral and tahlil ceremony of his late mother in Kg Balibata, Beaufort.


"Close contact screening found 34 more positive individuals including four family members in Sandakan. Screening activities are still active," he said at a press conference, here, today.


Meanwhile, the South KKIP Cluster reported seven new cases in Kota Kinabalu today with a cumulative total of 14 cases.


Masidi said the index case for this cluster was detected through symtomatic individual screening on Jan 11 at a private health clinic and is a non-citizen individual working at a noodle factory.


"Workplace screening and close contact tracing found 13 more positive cases," he said.
