KOTA KINABALU: Sabah today registered one new Covid-19 cluster, the Kota Sawit cluster in Kinabatangan which saw 14 cumulative cases.

In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the index case of the cluster involves a palm oil worker who was detected positive through symptomatic screening on April 13.

“Following the case, close contact screening found 13 more positive cases including the employee dependent.

“Based on the movement record, the index case is believed to have contracted the virus while visiting his family living in the red zone (Lahad Datu),” he said in a statement today.

According to Masidi, the factory which is the workplace of the index case has been closed while the workers have been quarantined.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 sampling and disinfection works are still ongoing to assess any infection and possible risk of spread to nearby plantations.
