COVID-19: NEW MADAI CLUSTER IN KUNAK, LAHAD DATU INVOLVES 11 HOSTEL STUDENTS

KOTA KINABALU: Another new Covid-19 cluster has emerged in Sabah today with a cumulative total of 30 positive cases.


In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Datuk Masidi Manjun said 12 cases were detected in Lahad Datu while the rest were identified in Kunak.


"The index case is a supermarket worker in Lahad Datu who tested positive through symptomatic screening on April 4.


"On April 8, 11 of the index case's housemates have also tested positive for the virus.


"The index case was believed to have contracted the virus from her mother-in-law. She recently, from another district, visited her child who is a teacher of SMK Madai in Kunak," he said.


According to Masidi, the teacher has tested positive for Covid-19 by a health centre in the district on April 9.


Following the case, screenings on all teachers and students of the school were conducted 20 where a total of 11 hostel students tested positive for the virus. Two of their family members also tested positive.


In addition to that, one SMK Madai staff had also tested positive for the virus. Today, four new cases were reported in the cluster.
