Covid-19: Sabah records 1,273 new cases, 43 deaths

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 caseloads in Sabah today has slightly dropped to 1,273, bringing the total statewide infections to 192,224.


However, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that Sabah continues to record high casualties with 43 reported today in several districts in Sabah.


“Sandakan reported the highest number of death cases today with 13, followed by Tawau (five), Lahad Datu and Penampang (four), Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Kalabakan and Putatan (two), and one each in Ranau, Pitas, Telupid, Kunak, Nabawan, Kota Belud, Keningau, Semporna and Kota Marudu,” he said in a statement today.


Masidi stated that of the total daily cases today, close contacts still contribute to the highest number with 784 cases, followed by symptomatic individuals (368 cases), other categories (108 cases), and cluster screening (eight).


"Of the total, 212 cases are classed in Category One, 948 cases in Category Two, no cases in Category Three, seven cases in Category Four and six cases Category Five,” he added.


Meanwhile, Masidi said a total of 2,519 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 168,823.


The number of active cases now stands at 3,661 with 2,278 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,320 at hospitals, 56 in temporary detention centres, and seven in private facilities.


"To date, a total of 161 patients require critical care including 145 receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, 16 in open wards, and 58 ventilated,” he added.
