Covid-19: Sabah records 2,246 new cases, 28 deaths

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah today has slightly dropped to 2,246 compared to yesterday 2,298, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 169,983.
However, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that Sabah still records a high number of Covid-19 death cases with 28 new cases reported today.
Masidi stated that of the total death cases, Tawau recorded the highest with 13 new cases, followed by Sandakan (eight), Papar (three), and one each in Kudat, Kota Marudu, Lahad Datu and Kota Kinabalu.
“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 1,247 which is 55.5 per cent of the total daily cases.
"This was followed by symptomatic screening (714), cluster screening (102), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.
Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah said that the number of cases in Category One and Two is 3,719, Category Three (four), Category Four (two), and Category Five with only one cases,” he added.
He stated that a total of 3,059 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 144,289.
The number of active cases now stands at 4,967 with 3,187 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,688 at hospitals, six in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.
"To date, there are 187 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 82 of them ventilated."
