Covid-19: Sabah records 2,474 new cases, 25 deaths

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah still records a soaring number of Covid-19 cases today with 2,474, bringing the cumulative total of statewide infection to 124, 430.
In a statement, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that 25 new Covid-19 deaths were also reported today with 12 in Kota Kinabalu, three in Tawau, two each in Papar, Penampang, Beaufort and Putatan, and one each in Keningau and Tambunan.
"Close contact screenings still contribute the highest number of positive cases with 1,609 which is more than 65 per cent of the total daily cases.
"This is followed by symptomatic screening (557), cluster screening with (140), targeted screening (16), and the rest in other categories,” he said in a statement today.
The Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah also mentioned that 2,410 of the total cases had either mild or no symptoms at all.
Meanwhile, Masidi said a total of 1,743 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 98,774.
The number of active cases now stands at 4,774 with 3,400 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,343 at hospitals, and the rest in temporary detention centres.
"To date, there are 181 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 83 of them ventilated,” he added.
