Covid-19: Sabah records 2,834 new cases, 17 deaths

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah continues to drop to 2,834 new cases, a decrease of 176 compared to yesterday 3,010, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 140,361.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that 17 deaths related to the virus were also recorded today with seven in Kota Kinabalu, five in Tawau, two in Keningau, and one each in Kunak, Semporna and Penampang.
“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 1,751 which is 61.79 per cent of the total daily cases.
"This was followed by symptomatic screening (778), cluster screening (51), targeted screening (11), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.
Masidi also mentioned that out of the total daily cases today, 2,753 cases had either mild or no symptoms at all.
Meanwhile, Masidi said a total of 1,077 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 107,589.
The number of active cases now stands at 5,007 with 3,486 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,457 at hospitals, and the rest in temporary detention centres.
"To date, there are 227 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 75 of them ventilated."
