COVID-19: SABAH RECORDS 378 NEW CASES, FIVE DEATHS

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah today registered a total of 378 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the cumulative total of statewide infections to 65,708.


Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the number of cases shot up as the Ministry of Health (MOH) intensified house-to-house screening in all localities placed under enhanced movement control order (EMCO).


"The figure is expected to remain high until the screening work is completed. MOH is carrying out a larger number of screenings in more areas than usual.


"Of the total cases, 167 cases were detected through close contact screening, while 130 were detected through cluster screening, 36 through targeted screening, 31 through symptomatic screening and 14 from other categories," he said in a statement today.


Kudat recorded the highest cases with 75 followed by Papar (58), Tawau (40), Sandakan (38), Kota Kinabalu (32), Lahad Datu (22), Kota Belud (19), Penampang (16), Telupid (15), Sipitang (13), Tuaran (12) and Nabawan (11).


Meanwhile, Kunak has eight new cases while five cases were each recorded in Kalabakan, Semporna and Beaufort, and two cases each in Putatan and Keningau.


Masidi added that five more fatalities were also registered in Sabah today with one each in Tawau, Semporna, Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu and Putatan.


The number of active cases now stands at 1,996 with 524 treated at hospitals and 1,472 in quarantine centres.


"The number of patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 98 with 39 requiring ventilator support," he stated.


As for recoveries, a total of 210 discharges were reported today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries in Sabah to 62,517.
