Covid-19: Sabah records 53 new death cases, 2,163 new positive cases

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has recorded a staggering number of Covid-19 death cases with 53 deaths, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.


“Of the total death cases -wtoday, Sandakan recorded the highest with 22 new cases, followed by Tawau (six), Penampang (five), Kota Belud (four), Keningau, Tuaran, and Kota Kinabalu (three), Kinabatangan (two), and one each in Semporna, Tenom, Tongod, Telupid and Pitas.

The number of Covid-19 daily cases in Sabah has slightly dropped to 2,163 cases, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 172,146.

“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 1,246 which is 57.60 per cent of the total daily cases.

"This was followed by symptomatic screening (675), cluster screening (36), targeted screening (eight), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.

Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah said a total of 2,009 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 146,298.

The number of active cases now stands at 4,850 with 3,120 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,641 at hospitals, nine in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.

"To date, there are 201 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 81 of them ventilated."
