Covid-19: Sabah records a staggering 54 new deaths, 2,067 new daily cases

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah continues to record a surging number of Covid-19 death cases with 54 deaths today the highest since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).


Masidi stated that of the total death cases, Sandakan recorded the highest with 27 new cases, followed by Tawau (14), Lahad Datu (six), Kota Kinabalu (three), Keningau and Papar (two), and one each in Semporna, Sipitang, Ranau, Kinabatangan, Penampang and Kunak.


The number of Covid-19 daily cases in Sabah has slightly dropped to 2,067 cases, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 165,439.


“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 1,086 which is 52.40 per cent of the total daily cases.


"This was followed by symptomatic screening (646), cluster screening (152), targeted screening (3), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.


Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah said a total of 5,668 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 138,076.


The number of active cases now stands at 4,984 with 3,191 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,720 at hospitals, nine in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.


"To date, there are 195 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 89 of them ventilated."
