KOTA KINABALU: Social gathering activities are among the main contributors to the rise in Covid-19 cases in Sabah, with a total of 54,767 cumulative total of statewide infections recorded as of March 31.
A total of 69 cases were recorded Wednesday, an increase of 28 cases compared to the day before, while two more clusters were detected, said Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Masidi Manjun.
The Kg Baru Pasir Putih cluster in Tawau has a cumulative total of eight cases and its index case, together with two of his children, tested positive on March 27.
"The index case attended a wedding ceremony in Kg Baru Pasir Putih, Tawau, along with 244 other attendees.
"Meanwhile, the Kg Rimbayan cluster in Keningau has a cumulative total of 15 cases," he said in a statement.
According to Masidi, the index case tested positive after a screening on March 17.
"Close contact screening found 14 other family members and neighbours of the index case which all attended a funeral in Kg Rimbayan between March 10-12," he stated.
The index cases of both the clusters underwent screening for interstate travel to Labuan.
In Tawau, one Covid-19 death case was also reported.
