Covid-19: Staggering 71 death cases reported in Sabah today

KOTA KINABALU: While Sabah continues to record a high number of Covid-19 death cases, it reported a shocking 71 cases today, one of the highest of all time.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that of the total cases, Kota Kinabalu recorded the highest with 21 new cases, followed by Sandakan (18), Tawau (15), Lahad Datu and Penampang (three), Kota Belud and Papar (two) and one each in Kota Marudu, Putatan, Kalabakan, Pitas, Kinabatangan, Tuaran and Keningau.
He added that the number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah today had also increased to 2,015 compared to yesterday, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 179,311.
“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 1,118 which of the total daily cases. This was followed by symptomatic screening (632), cluster screening (81), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.
Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah said that the number of cases in Category One and Two is 1,885, Category Three (five), Category Four and Category Five with nine cases,” he said.
He stated that a total of 1,943 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 152,329.
The number of active cases now stands at 4,520 with 2,822 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,607 at hospitals, seven in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.
"To date, there are 202 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 67 of them ventilated."
