KOTA KINABALU: All hope is not lost although Sabah continues to record a high number of new Covid-19 cases as Kota Marudu and Tenom have been registered as green zones after all active cases in the respective districts have recovered.

The two districts joined the green zone bandwagon with Beluran, Telupid, Kuala Penyu and Tongod, bringing the total of green zones in the state to six, said the state's official Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Masidi Manjun.

However, the total of 143 new cases recorded today has pushed the number of active cases to 904 and the cumulative total of statewide infections to 56,510.

Sandakan recorded the highest number of new cases with 57, followed by Tawau (35), Lahad Datu (22), Kota Kinabalu (14), Putatan (five), Keningau (four), Papar (two), Kinabatangan (two), Kota Belud (one) and Kalabakan (one).

Apart from the green zones, 11 other districts did not record any new cases, namely Tuaran, Kunak, Nabawan, Penampang, Kudat, Semporna, Beaufort, Ranau, Sipitang, Pitas and Tambunan.

"Of the total 143 new cases recorded today, 84 stemmed from new and existing clusters, 37 from close contact screening, 14 from symptomatic screening, and the rest from other categories.

"One-hundred and twenty-nine individuals have recovered from Covid-19 and were discharged, bringing the tally of recoveries in Sabah to 54,994," said Masidi in his statement today.

The Local Government and Housing Minister also mentioned that 296 out of 904 of the patients are treated at hospitals, including 57 in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 20 requiring ventilator support.

"A total of 296 individuals are being treated in quarantine and low-risk treatment centres,"
