SANDAKAN: Duchess of Kent Hospital here is facing a critical shortage of Type O blood, prompting an urgent appeal to the public for donations.

Hospital authorities said the shortage has reached an alarming level, with every available unit now serving as a vital lifeline for patients undergoing treatment and emergency care.

To address the situation, the hospital’s Blood Bank on Level 4 has extended its operating hours and is now open from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm, Monday to Friday, starting today. The move aims to encourage more members of the public to come forward and donate blood.

Residents of Sandakan, particularly those with Type O blood, are strongly encouraged to spare some time to help replenish the dwindling supply.

Hospital officials stressed that even a single donation could make the difference between life and death for patients in need, adding that public support is crucial during this critical period.
