KOTA KINABALU: Eight localities in Tawau will be placed under 14 days of enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting tomorrow (April 12) due to a spike in Covid-19 cases.

Sabah's official Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Masidi Manjun said the localities involved are Taman Sri Bukit Tawau, Taman Cahaya, Jalan Tengku Osman, Kuarters Bomba Tawau, Bandar Sri Indah, Jalan Mesra, Kampung Titingan and Taman Golden Hill.

"To date, the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases in eight of the localities is 76 where a total of 220 close contacts have been screened.

"The Ministry of Health (MoH) also confirmed that infectivity rate of Covid-19 infection is high among the localities," he said in a statement today.

According to Masidi, the decision to implement EMCO in these localities was made upon the advice MoH and after conducting a joint risk assessment with various agencies in the MCO Technical Committee.
