KOTA BELUD: Kadamaian State Assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick distributed food baskets in Mukim Lasau, Kadamaian today.

Earlier, Ewon donated a total of 550 food packs to staff and vaccine recipients of the vaccination programme at the Kg Lasau Minunsud Hall.

"These are among the programmes that we continuously do every time there is a vaccination drive in Kadamaian.

“I noticed a lot of people are waiting for their turn to be vaccinated. Therefore, these food packs can be enjoyed before or as soon as they get vaccinated," he said.

Besides that, the recipients also received Dugro drinking milk from the Kim Teck Cheong company.

A total of 50 cartons of Dugro milk were handed over to the Kadamaian Assembly Service Centre which were then distributed through the food basket programme, apart from the food pack programme for vaccine recipients in Mukim Lasau today.

Also present was Kim Teck Cheong Company Executive Director Dexter Lau during the handing over of the donation to the programme secretariat.

Ewon also agreed to donate two canopies that will be used during the second dose vaccination outreach programme scheduled on August 15 at the same venue.

"Thankfully, we managed to build this hall during our two-year tenure in the Government and now it is used for the programme. However, the hall could not accommodate more than 500 people at one time.

"The secretariat has provided two canopies outside the hall for those waiting for their turn, one of which I donated to the village before. However, it is not enough to accommodate large number of people lining up outside the hall.

"Hence, I will allocate two canopies to the Kg Lasau Minunsud Upko branch so that they can be used during the second dose for the people lining up outside," he said.

In a separate visit, Ewon also donated 80 food baskets to families who are in need of aid as well as to those who have never received food basket assistance from the government.

According to Ewon, the implementation of the programme will be coordinated by the Upko Lasau branches who have contacted him about the aid.

"I have been contacted by several Upko branches about several families needing food baskets. Therefore, I want them to also be part of the service to the community here.

"Upko leaders at the branch level will send these food baskets to the families involved," he said.

Meanwhile, General Manager Kim Teck Cheong Sifera Kodoh said, apart from the Kadamaian constituency, his team have also given the same contribution to residents in other areas in the state who needed help.

"Among them in Tuaran, Tamparuli, Tenom, Sipitang, Keningau, Tambunan, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Papar, Sandakan, Tawau, Semporna, Beluran, Telupid, Ranau, Pitas, Kudat, Kota Marudu, Matunggong and Penampang.

“We provide various types of assistance including buns, bread, bottled drinking water, powdered milk and packed milk.

"This is one of our company's corporate social responsibilities (CSR) to the people of Sabah," he said.
