KOTA KINABALU: Four localities with a cumulative total of 30 Covid-19 cases will be put under enhanced movement control order (EMCO) for 14 days starting this Wednesday (June 2).
In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Datuk Masidi Manjun said the localities involved are Kampung Kuala Menggatal in Kota Kinabalu as well as Jalan Klias 2, Jalan Klias 3, and Kampung Klias Baru in Beaufort.
"To date, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has taken 102 test samples (in Kampung Kuala Menggatal) and of the total, 10 test samples came back positive with a positivity rate of 9.8 per cent.
"For the localities in Beaufort, a total of 20 positive cases were recorded after screening tests were conducted on 280 individuals," he said.
Masidi added that the decision to impose EMCO from June 2-15 was decided after a joint risk assessment with various agencies from the MCO Technical Committee and on the advice of MOH.
"The implementation of EMCO in these localities is to ensure all residents who are at risk of Covid-19 infections to stay in their respective areas thus preventing the spread to the outside community.
"This is also to allow MOH to conduct early tracing of suspected Covid-19 cases in order to isolate these cases as soon as possible while also tracing their close contacts.
