KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster has emerged in Beaufort today known as the Limbawang cluster which involves infections among the communities.
In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the new cluster was believed to have started from a burial ceremony at Kg Gelilia Padas Damit on June 20.
“The index case of the cluster is a 35-year-old male who tested positive for the Covid-19 virus after having symptoms on June 21,” he said.
According to Masidi, through a close contact screening, four more individuals were also tested positive which comprises family members and guests who attended the funeral.
“Meanwhile, there has been also a trace of infection among the family members in four different localities in Limbawang.
“Following the discovery, close contact screening was conducted on 160 people and found 21 more positive cases and two new cases today bringing the cumulative number of cases to 30,” he stated.
