KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has been conferred the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) Distinguished Honorary Fellow Award in recognition of his visionary policies and his profound understanding of the engineering community's role.

The award was presented by Ir Prof Dr Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin, President of IEM and AFEO Chairman, during a ceremony held at Menara Kinabalu today.

In his reading of the award citation, AFEO Secretary-General Ir Prof Dr David Chuah Joon Huang stated, "This award is given to distinguished individuals such as Deputy/Vice Presidents of a country, Deputy Prime Ministers, Heads of Ministries, and prominent figures who have made substantial contributions to the engineering profession, the Institution, and the ASEAN community."

Hajiji's significant contributions to community development, economic advancement, and effective governance underscore his deep commitment to the welfare of Sabah. His adept leadership, forward-thinking policies, and recognition of the engineering sector's importance make him a deserving recipient of this prestigious honor within the ASEAN region.

Accompanied by AER Head Commissioner Ir. Simon Yeong Chin Chow and the IEM Sabah committee, led by Chairman Ir. Ts. Mohd Yaakob Jaafar, Chiang briefed the Chief Minister on the upcoming 42nd Conference of the AFEO (CAFEO), which will be hosted by the Institute of Engineering Malaysia (IEM) Sabah at the Sabah International Convention Centre from October 22 to 24.

Themed "Charting ASEAN Growth with Digital Transformation, Smart Engineering, and Green Solutions," the 42nd CAFEO is anticipated to attract between 1,200 and 1,500 participants. The AFEO Distinguished Honorary Fellow Award is typically presented during the opening ceremony of the CAFEO.
