PAPAR: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Limbahau chief Datuk Johnny Mositun urges Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to consider the area when it implements its programs to improve digital communications in Sabah.
There are areas in Limbahau where there is still no digital communication coverage, said Mositun.
“I visited a few of these kampungs recently and am sad to report that they do not have mobile phone coverage. This means that the school going children there unable to participate in the online lessons conducted by their teachers,” he said.
The PBS Vice President said the villages he visited recently were Kampung Kaiduan, Kampung Tanaki, Kampung Kopimpinan, Kampung Gana, Kampung Bolotikon, Kampung Mandalipau Ovai and Kampung Kapalid Kobulu, Labak.
To this end, he expresses hope that MCMC will consider building towers in Limbahau and its surrounding areas so as to boost the digital communication system there.
“I thank the federal government for allocation of RM9.4 billion announced in Budget 2021 to develop the national digital strategy across industry sectors and the people.
“I believe with this allocation, MCMC can close the digital gap holistically and it would be able to provide better telecommunications infrastructure with the PRIHATIN Network programme and National Digital Network Initiative (JENDELA),” he said.
Mositun stressed that digital connectivity is now part of the new normal as it is important not only for teachers and students, it is also important for those who have to work from home and the business community.
“We do not want students in Limbahau, especially those sitting for important examinations to be left out,” he said.
