Incentive for SUKMA gold medal raised to RM10,000

KUCHING: The Sabah State Government has increased the incentive for gold medal winners of the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Sarawak from RM5,000 to RM10,000.
The Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor mentioned that for silver and bronze medal winners, the State Government will await recommendations from the State Ministry of Youth and Sports after the conclusion of SUKMA Sarawak.
He hopes that the Sabah contingent will successfully achieve a target of 40 gold medals at the 21st SUKMA in Sarawak.
"I want the Sabah athletes to compete with a high sportsmanship spirit and uphold self-discipline for the good name of Sabah," he said after a meeting with the Sabah Wushu Squad, which successfully contributed three gold medals and one silver at the 21st SUKMA Sarawak at Hotel Pullman today.
Also present were the Sabah Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Ellron Angin, his Deputy Minister, Datuk Fairuz Renddan, the State Secretary of Sabah, Datuk Safar Untong, and the Permanent Secretary of the Sabah Ministry of Youth and Sports, Datuk Mansur Asun, who is also the 'Chief De' Mission' of Sabah.
Hajiji congratulated the Wushu squad for winning the first gold and silver medals for Sabah.
The three gold medals won by the Wushu Squad were through Amirah Sofea Azlan in the women's 45-48kg sanda event, Dione Babyline Fely (women's 48-52kg sanda category), and Fyenlly Himon (men's 48-52kg sanda).
The silver medal was won by Ericson Bong Cheng Loong (men's toulu gunshu).
