Initiatives based on the Sabah Electricity Supply Regulatory Authority to be implemented

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government will implement every initiative that has been formulated based on the Sabah Electricity Supply Regulatory Authority Act, which is now owned by Sabah, with the targets set in the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Masterplan 2040, said the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.
He stated that Sabah will continue to cooperate with the Federal Government to ensure the implementation of all initiatives to further improve the performance of the electricity supply in the state.
He said that the State Government will also continue to collaborate with Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd. (SESB) to facilitate and provide support in implementing the SESB Transformation Plan towards the sustainability of the utility company.
"The State Government, through the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS), will ensure the direct involvement of all stakeholders in Sabah to ensure that current issues can be addressed in a more effective and sustainable manner," he said.
He made these remarks at the Symbolic Handover Ceremony of the Sabah Electricity Supply Regulatory Authority by the Federal Government to the State Government at the Main Meeting Room, Menara Kinabalu on Friday.
The Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Energy Transition and Public Utilities, Dato' Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, symbolically handed over the authority to the Sabah State Government.
Hajiji said that the process of transferring the authority of electricity supply regulation and renewable energy to the State Government has been completed after the Electricity Supply (Amendment) Act 2024 and the Renewable Energy Act were passed in a special session of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly on January 3.
In this regard, on behalf of the State Government, he expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for smoothly and orderly approving the transfer of regulatory authority.
"This demonstrates the high level of agreement and cooperation between the Federal Government and the State Government," he emphasized.
Hajiji also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for handing over the regulatory authority of the Sabah electricity supply to the Sabah State Government, the official documents from the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Public Utilities to the State Secretary of Sabah, and the completion plaque of the project from the ministry to the State Secretary of Sabah.
"May all these efforts bring Sabah to a level of sustainable energy supply for the well-being of the people of this state," he concluded.
Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya, the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Malaysia, Datuk Ewon Benedick, the State Secretary, Datuk Seri Panglima Sr. Haji Safar Untong, the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Public Utilities, Dr. Ching Thoo A/L Kim, the Attorney General of Sabah, Datuk Nor Asiah Mohd Yusof, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS), Datuk Ir. Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid.
