Kadamaian UPKO Harvest Festival an anticipated community event

KOTA BELUD: The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) will host the anticipated Harvest Festival Unduk Ngadau search for the Kadamaian Representative on May 3.


This event is specifically dedicated to finding a deserving candidate who will represent the Kadamaian Constituency during the State Level UPKO Harvest Festival Celebration taking place in Kuala Penyu on May 11th and 12th.


Jolyhame Saran, the event's organiser, expressed his excitement for the upcoming search where he emphasised that the focus of the event is to crown an exceptional Unduk Ngadau or Beauty Queen who embodies the values and spirit of a harvest Queen.


He mentioned that their goal is to attract a minimum of 15 participants to compete for the prestigious title. The event will be held at the UPKO Headquarters in Kg Piasau Kota Belud, providing a fitting backdrop for the search.


To ensure fairness and unity among the participants, they will be required to wear a white shirt and jeans during the competition. The judging criteria will revolve around their ability to embody the unduk ngadau persona, showcasing grace, poise, and a deep understanding of their cultural roots.


"It will be a momentous occasion in the quest for the beauty queen," he declared, emphasizing the significance of the upcoming event. In addition to the honor of being crowned, the winner will also receive RM1500 to assist with her expenses when representing Kadamaian at the UPKO State Level event.


As customary, the crowned beauty queen will be accorded with a sash, a crown, and a bouquet of flowers, in addition to the cash prize.


However, the festivities will not conclude there, he said adding that the merriment will continue on May 16th and 17th. On the 16th, there will be the launching of the celebration by the Kadamaian State Assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick. It will be Cooperative Community Enhancement Programme.


Next day, a singing competition will captivate the audience, showcasing the talents of the participants. Additionally, a thrilling Tug of War contest will add a touch of friendly competition to the affair. Alongside these exhilarating activities, health checks will be available.


Stalls will grace the event, offering an array of enticing products for revelers, he said, adding that there will also be a lucky draw.


He stated that according to the programme, the Ka'amatan Madani Kg. Piasau 2024 program is designed to provide the community and younger generation with a deeper appreciation of the importance of cooperatives and cultural values. It aims to instill the spirit of self-advancement through cooperatives and culture, fostering unity as the foundation. The program is specifically targeted towards the residents around Kg. Piasau and the Kota Belud area, with an estimated participation of around 1000 people.


The objectives of the Ka'amatan Madani Kg. Piasau 2024 programme are to increased appreciation for venturing into the field of cooperative entrepreneurs. It aims to promote an understanding and appreciation of the cooperative business model, encouraging individuals to explore entrepreneurial opportunities within the cooperative sector.


It is also to Instill the spirit of unity of the multiracial Malaysian nation, by emphasising the importance of cooperatives and cultural values and foster a sense of unity among the diverse Malaysian population. Maintaining and continuing the traditional customs and cultural uniqueness of the village's Kadazandusuns, to preserve and promote the traditional customs and cultural heritage of the people ensuring its continuity for future generations.


Applying awareness and concern for a harmonious life beyond traditional economic activities where in addition to traditional economic activities like working in the rice fields or seeking family economic resources, the programme aims to raise awareness and promote a harmonious way of life.


It also hopes to Increase motivation and proactive behavior aligned with ancestral practices. The programme encourages participants to be proactive, diligent, and creative, drawing inspiration from the practices of their ancestors.


The Ka'amatan Madani Kg. Piasau 2024 program primarily targets the residents around Kg. Piasau and the Kota Belud area and is estimated that around 1000 people will participate in the programmes.
