KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), which operates Malaysia Airlines and Firefly, has announced the addition of over 200 extra flights during the upcoming Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri peak travel period to accommodate the expected surge in demand.

In a statement on Wednesday, the aviation group said Malaysia Airlines will increase up to 200 additional flight frequencies, including aircraft upgrades, on key domestic routes. These routes include Alor Setar, Kota Bharu, Terengganu, Miri, Sibu, Kuching, Tawau, Sandakan, and Kota Kinabalu.

"The airline will also offer fixed all-in one-way fares starting from RM389 to Sabah and RM319 to Sarawak for selected late-night flights.

"Bookings are available immediately until 9 April 2025 for travel between 27 March and 8 April 2025, exclusively via Malaysia Airlines’ official website and mobile app," it stated.

Meanwhile, Firefly will launch a special campaign from 7 March to 20 March 2025, offering promotional fares starting from just RM69 for travel between 7 March and 30 November 2025.

"Firefly will also add up to 40 additional flights across its jet and ATR-operated services to key destinations such as Kota Bharu, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuching, Tawau, and more to meet increased demand," it emphasised.

Additionally, Malaysia Airlines and Firefly will support the government’s initiative to subsidise airline tickets during the Raya festive period by capping economy-class base fares at RM499 one-way for flights from Kuala Lumpur to East Malaysia.

"This applies to travel between 27 March and 30 March 2025. Malaysia Airlines remains committed to supporting this initiative to ensure affordable fares during the festive season," it stated.
