MCMC SOLVES POOR INTERNET CONNECTION IN KAMPUNG RANGGOM

KENINGAU: The poor internet connection in Kg Ranggom here will soon be a thing in the past as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is stepping up to fix the issue.

This step was taken after local media reported the situation of Form Five student Atiqah Nurqistina Jamain who struggled with poor access in the village.

She said she was not able to cope up with her studies since last year when the home-based learning (PdPR) was implemented due to poor internet connection.

MCMC and a representative of telecommunication service providers have met with Atiqah several days ago to understand more about her struggles.

A broadband speed test was also conducted in the area of Atiqah's house during the visit and it was found that the coverage at the location was unsatisfactory.

"As a temporary measure in alleviating the difficulties faced by Atiqah, optimisation work will be carried out by Maxis at the location of the nearest tower in Kg. Labak Baru Bingkor.

"After the Movement Control Order (MCO), she can register as a member of the Community Internet Center (PIK). However, for the moment, she can utilise the existing Wi-Fi facilities in the centre subject to SOP compliance," said a statement issued by MCMC today.

A long-term solution through the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) is already designed and a tower will be built by Celcom under the JENDELA project in Kg Sungai Apin-Apin located approximately 0.77 kilometres from Kg. Ranggom.

"Construction of this tower which is expected to be completed in April 2022 will solve the

coverage problems faced by the student concerned and the residents around Kg. Ranggom."
