MoU to enhance students’ employability

KOTA KINABALU: UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA), a leading property development and asset management company that includes investment and asset management, hospitality, and facility management, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kolej Universiti Borneo Utara (KUBU) today.


Through this MoU, UDA real estate development and national asset management, an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDC) is committed to empowering the education sector by providing new opportunities for training, education, and industry experience to students and staff of KUBU. This collaboration aims to enhance skills and employability in important sectors such as property development, hospitality, and facility management.


By joining forces with KUBU, UDA aims to foster a mutually beneficial partnership that will contribute to the growth and advancement of the education sector. Through the provision of diverse opportunities, UDA seeks to equip students and staff members of KUBU with the necessary knowledge and experience to excel in their respective fields.


This collaboration seeks to bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that graduates possess the skills and expertise required to thrive in the competitive realms of property development, hospitality, and facility management.


The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kolej Universiti Borneo Utara (KUBU) and UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) was signed by Professor Dato’ Sr Dr. Azimuddin Bahari, Vice-Chancellor of Kolej Universiti Borneo Utara and Board Member of UDA Holdings Berhad and Datuk Sr Mohd. Salem Kailany, President/CEO of UDA Holdings Berhad. The signing was witnessed by Associate Professor Doretty R Jiroh, Deputy President 1 of North Borneo University College and Reza Huzairi Zainudin, Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services Group, UDA Holdings Berhad.


According to Datuk Sr Mohd. Salem Kailany, President/CEO of UDA Holdings Berhad UDA's firm commitment to this partnership is driven by its extensive experience in the industry, spanning several decades. UDA's wealth of knowledge and expertise will serve as a valuable resource for KUBU, as it strives to enhance its curriculum and provide students with a comprehensive understanding of current industry trends and practices.


Additionally, UDA is prepared to offer industry-specific training and expert guidance to KUBU students and lecturers, subject to mutually agreed-upon terms and conditions. This collaborative effort aims to benefit all parties involved, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the education sector and the nation's economy as a whole, he stated.


He stated that this strategic partnership between higher education institutions and industries can provide effective understanding of current industry trends and practices, especially in property development and asset management carried out by UDA.


The experience gained over several decades can serve as a reference to strengthen the industry knowledge of future KUBU graduates and improve the curriculum and sharing of experiences between both parties. UDA is also ready to offer industry training and expert advice to KUBU students and lecturers in relevant fields, subject to terms and conditions, for the benefit of all parties. This initiative meets the need for enhancing industry skills for the new and upcoming generation.

Dato’ Sr Dr. Azimuddin Bahari, Vice-Chancellor of Kolej Universiti Borneo Utara said they are looking forward to several collaboration with UDA on various courses offered by the university, such as hospitality and Tourism, TVET, Computing and Innovative Technology, Business and Enforcement and Governance among others.


“Quite a number of these sectors are within the programmes offered in our university, even culinary and we can send for internship with hotels under UDA as well as those in business studies, we can even send these students to intern with UDA,” he stated.


He also said that with the collaboration with UDA, they wanted to make sure that their students are employable students.

Overall, the collaboration hoped to start UDA's branding initiative known as LIFE, an acronym representing 'Legacy,'


'Integrated,' 'Finesse,' and 'Enrich.' This branding approach aligns with UDA's overarching goal of sustainability and emphasises the importance of nurturing skilled and resilient graduates who meet the demands of today's dynamic industry landscape.
