National Day and Sabah Day celebrated with pomp

KOTA KINABALU: Thousands of people from all walks of life gathered as early as dawn to celebrate the National Day and inaugural Sabah Day parade along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens today.


The ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Hajah Norlidah Tan Sri RM Jasni. They were warmly welcomed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor and the organising chairman, Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun.


Following the arrivals, the Head of State inspected the guard of honour and observed the oath-reading ceremony and choir performance, which were followed by the main procession.


The march past began with the display of the Jalur Gemilang, the Sabah flag, and the flags of all Malaysian states.


This year’s parade featured a total of 185 contingents, representing security forces, government departments and agencies, uniformed bodies, associations, and schools.
