New Covid-19 clusters detected in Nabawan, Kinabatangan

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah today registered two new Covid-19 clusters in known as the Lima cluster in Nabawan and Pin Supu cluster in Kinabatangan, said Sabah's official Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Masidi Manjun.


The Lima cluster has a cumulative total of 61 cases, while the Pin Supu cluster has 34 cases.


"The Lima cluster was triggered by a 22-year-old who tested positive on Aug 20 after having symptoms of fever, cough, and body ache two days prior. It was believed that the cluster was triggered from a community infection.

"A total of 134 family members, as well as social and dependant contacts, were instructed to undergo Covid-19 screening of which 61 were found to have tested positive," he said in a statement today.


“A total of 21 of them are still pending results while 53 of them tested negative on their first swab tests,” he added.


Meanwhile, the Pin Supu cluster is categorised as a workplace that was detected in an oil palm plantation in Sukau, Kinabatangan.


According to Masidi, the index case is 40-year-old Indonesian who works at the plantation. He tested positive on Aug 22 after having symptoms since Aug 14.


“A total of 129 close contacts, workers and dependents of the index case had undergone screening of which 34 of them tested positive.”
