NO SPECIAL PERMISSION REQUIRED FOR FEDERAL CIVIL SERVANTS ENTERING SABAH - MASIDI

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has allowed federal civil servants working in Sabah to enter Sabah without applying for special permission.
In a press statement yesterday, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Masidi Manjun said however the exemption is subject to several conditions.
Among the conditions include the need to possess Restricted Travel Document (DPT) or Malaysian International Passport (PMA) before entering Sabah.
He said, civil servants involved must use both the documents to obtain the Section 66(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 stamp at Sabah's entry points.
"(Civil servants must) show supporting documents such as letters confirming their posting in Sabah from their respective departments.
"For their dependents, they need to show proof of relationship before entering Sabah and are required to get the stamp or apply for a long-term social visit pass at the Immigration office after entering Sabah," he said.
According to Masidi, the exemption also applied to diplomats under the Exemption Order and their dependents.
"For diplomats or embassy staff who do not possess passes or are entering the state for the first time, they need to first apply for entry permission from the Immigration Department Chief Director.
"Ship crew members not involved with oil and gas sector who enter the state to conduct 'sign-on' or 'joint ship' activities, they are required to attach documents such as identification card or passport, Seaman Book and letter of guarantee from the Immigration Department," he explained.
