KOTA KINABALU: The Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu (PCAKK) is holding its Annual Charity Dinner and Show, on 8 August 2025 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), commencing at 7pm.

Organising Chairperson Datuk Margaret Lim shared, “Through this year’s event, we hope to raise RM250,000 to sustain the essential palliative care services that PCAKK provides to the community. "

"Ticket prices for a table of 10 range from RM2,000 to RM20,000, with available tiers at RM2,000, RM3,000, RM5,000, RM10,000, RM15,000, and RM20,000.”

She further noted that the organisation’s current annual operating cost stands at approximately RM600,000.

PCAKK is deeply committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families facing life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.

Its comprehensive home care model ensures patients receive medical, emotional, and psychosocial support in the comfort of their own homes, promoting dignity, comfort, and peace.

“Our patients include individuals living with cancer, end-stage organ failure, complications following strokes, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and motor neurone disease. We also support elderly patients with age-related conditions, as well as children with complex, life-limiting illnesses,” Margaret explained.

“At present, we are caring for over 100 patients in their homes. We also provide essential medical equipment and aids on loan, entirely free of charge.”

PCAKK President, Dato’ Dr Jaswant Singh, highlighted the association’s longstanding impact: “Since our founding in 1998, we have supported more than 5,200 patients and their families. Our Home Care Programme includes a full-time Resident Medical Officer, Dr Christiannie Tay, three dedicated nurses, and a team of volunteers. We are further supported by our esteemed Medical Advisors—myself, Datuk Dr Ronney Bachi, and Dr Anita Boey.”

PCAKK works in close collaboration with the Palliative Care Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital to ensure continuity and quality of care.

The Home Care Programme is registered and regulated by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, ensuring professional standards are upheld.

In preparation for the upcoming event, the organising committee recently paid a courtesy visit Tun Musa Aman, the Sabah Head of State and his consort Toh Puan Datin Seri Panglima Datu Faridah Tussin, to extend a formal invitation to grace the evening.

Tun Musa has been a steadfast and compassionate supporter of PCAKK, notably during his tenure as Chief Minister of Sabah.

His longstanding advocacy has been instrumental in sustaining PCAKK’s home-based palliative care services and fundraising initiatives.

The highlight of the evening will be a Tina Turner Tribute Performance by the internationally renowned Rebecca O’Connor, the only tribute artist personally endorsed by the late legend herself.

In Tina Turner’s own words: “Rebecca is so good, it’s scary.” With powerful vocals and electric stage presence, Rebecca delivers not just a performance, but a celebration of the Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll.

Also performing during the event is Zara Goh Flintoff, a talented saxophonist. Besides that local talents The String Trio will also participate in the entertainment.

Margaret also expressed her heartfelt appreciation: “We are incredibly grateful to our longstanding sponsors, Winecellars Borneo, Sabah Publishing House, Sounds Tech Production, and Percetakan Mutiara MP Sdn Bhd and we warmly welcome our new sponsors: Infinity Club, Sabah International Convention Centre, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, Kinabalu International Hotel Sdn Bhd, Borneo Oil Berhad, and Prima Land & Development.”

Also present during the event were Ivy Stanislaus, and other key members of the organising committee.
