SANDAKAN: Tanjong Papat State Assemblyman, Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung has expressed dismay over the Sandakan City Council (MPS) for its inaction to solve issues that were complained by hawkers and stall operators of Sandakan Central Market.

He said these hawkers and stall operators have been working without lights and fans and his team has long submitted the complain to MPS.

“I wish to reiterate that the hawkers and stall operators are working very hard and working from hand to mouth … They spend long hours starting way early in the morning before many of us have woken from our sleep. They toil hard.

“They need the lights and fans to work and to prepare all the food to receive customers early in the morning. I just fail to understand why can't the local authority facilitate them with some simple maintenance work so that the hawkers and stall operators can carry out their work with sufficient lights and cooling in their respective stalls,” he said in a statement today.

According to Poon, aside from the lights and fans, there is also an issue with the gutters on the top floor which require replacement.

“I hope the local council would address these perennial issues and resolve them once and for all with a good and speedy procedure.

“These problems are not new and will occur from time to time with more frequency when our businesses have more engagements,” he asserted.

Earlier, Poon and his team visited the constituents and hawkers at the market to distribute some face masks.
