PENAMPANG: Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Development Minister Ewon Benedick said the power of attorney to carry out the upgrading of Tamu Donggongon has been given to the Sabah Public Works Department (PWD).
Ewon who is also the Penampang MP said, currently the PWD is appointing a consultant to design the 'tamu'.
"I was made to understand that the design is expected to be completed within six months but I have requested for the period to be shortened to three months so that the procurement process is completed before Nov 18 this year.
"This is because on Nov 18, we will hold the National Hawkers and Petty Traders Day (HPPK) celebration in Penampang which is expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim," he said.
He said this when met by reporters after a work visit to Tamu Donggongon and SMK Kipovo here today.
Also present were Director-General of the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) Datuk Ruji Ubi, Sabah Federal Secretary Dato' Makhzan Mahyuddin, Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang, Penampang District Officer Francis Chong, heads of state, federal government departments and local leaders.
According to Ewon, the visit at Tamu Donggongon is to see the need to expedite the upgrade of the tamu that had been delayed for a long time.
"The JPM ICU has informed me that a power of attorney letter has been given to the state government (Sabah PWD) to implement the project," he said.
He also visited the proposed temporary tamu site in Donggongon near Petronas Station in the area for hawkers and petty traders while waiting for the Tamu Donggonogn upgrade to be fully completed.
Ewon said, he will request a number of allocations from the Prime Minister to provide some necessary facilities at the temporary site of the tamu.
