KUALA LUMPUR: The National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) believes that candidates’ preparations for the 2020 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) examinations will not be affected even as the face-to-face school sessions have been set to end tomorrow.

Its secretary-general, Harry Huat Hock said despite the fact that the face-to-face school sessions could only be held for less than a month (since Jan 20), candidates and their teachers had been preparing for the exams since last year, including by having home-based school sessions to finish the syllabus of subjects involved.

He said the two-week period before the exams kick off on Feb 22 will be the final sprint for the candidate to prepare themselves, including mastering all the answering techniques.

“Now is the time for them to study on their own and make their final preparations and if they still need one-on-one assistance, they can still reach out to their teachers,” he said when contacted here today.

In a circular dated Feb 4, the Ministry of Education said the face-to-face school sessions for all 2020 SPM and SVM candidates will end on Feb 9 to give the students the opportunity to self-study, besides celebrating Chinese New Year.

The circular also said that schools can conduct additional classes during this time until the exams end if there is a need, subject to compliance with strict standard operating procedures (SOP). - Bernama
