Retail price for Covid-19 self-test kits fixed at RM19.90

KUALA LUMPUR: The retail ceiling price for the Covid-19 self-test kits has been fixed to RM19.90 per set starting Sept 5.
In a joint statement yesterday, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi and Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the wholesale ceiling price for the tests kits has also been set at RM16 per set.
They stated that the retail and wholesale ceiling prices were set based on the appropriateness and suitability for more effective enforcement to ensure reasonable prices and availability of supply in the market for the benefit of consumers and traders.
The decision was also made according to findings of its price monitoring activities on all business premises and pharmacies in the country, they added.
Individuals caught selling the test kits beyond the ceiling price would be Individuals may be fined up to RM100,000 or sentenced to a jail term of not more than three years, or both. They may also be issued compounds of up to RM50,000.
Meanwhile, companies may face fine up to RM500,0000 or issued compounds of up to RM250,000.
