RM1,500 minimum wage starting May 1

19 March 2022 By Farah Salim KUALA LUMPUR: The government will start implementing the RM1,500 minimum wage policy across the country effective May 1. Prime Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced this during his winding-up speech at the Umno general assembly today. According to him, this is put in place after considering the increase in cost of living that would burden especially the B40 community. “The government has approved the implementation of a new minimum wage rate of RM1,500 per month from May 1, 2022 nationwide. “The impact study has been carried out in depth this decision was made including its impact on small-medium enterprises,” said the vice president of Umno. However, this policy only applies to private sector companies that comprise at least five employees. Meanwhile, Ismail disclosed that the matter on proposed dissolution of the parliament to make way for the 15th General Election will be discussed with the party’s “Top Five” leaders. “This will also be discussed with the MKT and the cabinet before being presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for His Majesty’s approval,” he stated.
