KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Department of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs has seized some 2,926 units of counterfeit goods involving footwear, jerseys and bags worth RM101,860 from a premise here, yesterday.

Its Director Georgie Abas in a press statement today said the premise is located at the first floor of a building in Kota Kinabalu which has been used as a storage place for counterfeit shoes, bags and clothing of various brands.

"The business premise is located on the ground floor of the building, however, the goods were not displayed there as they were only sold online.

"The raid was made following intelligence that had been carried out for a week by the department at the location involved as well as online where the goods were sold," he said.

According to Georgie, a total of 1,815 pairs of shoes, 871 jerseys and 240 bags, all carried brand names like Nike and Adidas, were seized during the raid.

"The statements of seven employees involved with the company were also taken to assist in the investigation.

"Based on their statements, the business started in early February this year and all the counterfeit goods were obtained from suppliers in Singapore.

"The goods will then be advertised on social media for sale to customers around Kota Kinabalu," he stated.

The owner of the premises is suspected of committing an offence under the Trademark Act 2019 and the case is being investigated according to section 102 (1) (c) of the Trademark Act 2019.

If convicted, one can be fined not more than RM10,000.00 for each item or imprisoned not more than three years or both and for body corporate can be fined not more than RM15,000.00 for each item.
