RM161.7 Millions allocated to Support Sabah Electricity's ICPT Expenses

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity has received a RM161.7 million subsidy to cover this year's Imbalanced Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) expenses, according to its chairman, Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.
He stated that the Federal Government disbursed the funds on December 23 to reimburse Sabah Electricity for the ICPT costs incurred.
"We thank the Federal Government for addressing our needs, which enables Sabah Electricity to continue providing reliable power in Sabah," he said in a statement.
Madius also expressed gratitude to the state government for its allocation of RM50.9 million in ICPT subsidies to Sabah Electricity.
He noted that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced last Friday that the ICPT surcharge will be waived from January 1 to June 30, 2025, to alleviate consumer burdens.
In November, Madius, who is also the MP for Tuaran, voiced concerns in the Dewan Rakyat about potential blackouts in Sabah during the Christmas and New Year celebrations if the subsidy payment was not made.
