SABAH COVID DAILY CASELOAD SHOOTS UP TO 647 NEW

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s new Covid-19 cases today soared to 647, a drastic increase of 321 cases compared to yesterday’s 326, bringing the cumulative total of statewide infections to 74,479.


In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun explained that the daily cases escalated today as Kota Kinabalu district contributed a high number with 312 which mostly came from Kepayan prison cluster.


“Of the total cases today, 287 cases were detected through cluster screening, while 220 were detected through close contact screening, 63 from targeted screening, 47 through sypmptomatic screening, and 30 from other categories.


“The second highest cases recorded today is Tawau with 78 cases, followed by Keningau (39), Kudat (35), Sandakan (33), Sipitang (25), Pitas (19), Penampang and Tuaran (13), Semporna (nine), Putatan (eight), Kota Belud, Beluran and Kota Marudu (seven), Papar (six), Kinabatangan (four), Lahad Datu (three), Ranau (two), Kalabakan, Kunak, and Tongod (one).


“Districts that did not record any cases today are Kuala Penyu, Telupid, Nabawan, Tambunan and Tenom," he said in a statement today.


The number of active cases now stands at 2,776 with 442 treated at hospitals, 1,700 in quarantine centres and 634 in detention centres.


"The number of patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 54 with nine requiring ventilator support," he stated.


As for recoveries, a total of 199 discharges were reported today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries in Sabah to 70,957.


Unfortunately, one Covid-19 death was reported today in Lahad Datu.
