KOTA KINABALU: Dine in or not to dine in? This is a matter that has left the people of Sabah perplexed as the state is preparing to enter the second phase of the national recovery plan tomorrow (July 10).

While the latest Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Sabah has been released by the National Security Council today, it failed to provide a clear mention of the dine-in directives.

The SOPs stated that eatery outlets such as restaurants, cafes, food stalls, food trucks and roadside stalls, among others are allowed to operate from 6am to 9pm by take-outs, drive-throughs or deliveries.

It was not specified whether dine-ins are allowed or not.

Since Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor's announcement on the permission to dine in which was then retracted a day after about a week, most restaurants have started opening their doors for patrons after getting the green light from local authorities.

After the incident, Sabah's official Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Masidi Manjun mentioned in his statement that a new set of SOPs for Sabah has been submitted to the federal government and is subject to approval.

However, the state government has yet heard from the federal government ever since.
