SABAH RECORDS 131 NEW CASES, PAPAR AND KALABAKAN NOW RED ZONES

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah daily Covid-19 caseload is back with triple digits as 131 new cases were reported today, bringing the cumulative total to 58,047.


Two more districts have also turned to red zones today which are Papar and Kalabakan. With that being said, there are a total of nine red zones to date which also includes Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Sandakan, Kunak and Putatan.


The state capital recorded the highest number of new cases with 40. Twenty of the cases were contributed by the Jalan Khidmat cluster, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.


Meanwhile, 11 of the cases in Kota Kinabalu were detected in the Dambai Inanam cluster.


Tawau has 26 new cases while Kalabakan has 15, Kinabatangan (12), Lahad Datu (11), Sandakan (seven), Penampang (five), Kunak (four), Nabawan (three), Tuaran, Papar and Telupid each have two, and Putatan has one.


"Of the total cases, 70 stemmed from close contact screening, 42 detected in existing clusters, 15 in symptomatic screening and the rest from other categories.


"One Covid-19 death was also reported today in Tawau," said Masidi in his statement today.


According to him. the number of active cases now stands at 769 with 278 treated at hospitals and 493 in quarantine centres.


"Fifty-one patients are currently treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 19 require ventilator support.


"A total of 115 individuals have recovered from Covid-19, bringing the cumulative total of statewide recoveries to 56,609."
