KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah has once again breached the 2,000 trends with 2,103 cases recorded today, the highest since the inception of Movement Control Order (MCO).

In a statement, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that 15 new Covid-19 casualties were also reported today with three in Kota Kinabalu, two in Papar, Tawau, and Putatan, and one each in Penampang, Keningau, Tuaran, Kunak, Kota Marudu and Kinabatangan.

"Close contact screenings still contribute the highest number of positive cases with 1,243 which is more than 50 per cent of the total daily cases.

"This is followed by symptomatic screening (532), cluster screening with (161), targeted screening (38), and the rest in other categories.

"The high number of positive cases today which mostly came from close contact screening shows that there are still a lot of people flouting the standard operating procedure (SOP),” he said in a statement.

The Covid-19 official spokesperson of Sabah also mentioned that 1,551 of the total cases had either mild or no symptoms at all.

Meanwhile, Masidi said a total of 652 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 90,356.

The number of active cases now stands at 5,153 with 3,888 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,219 at hospitals, and the rest in temporary detention centres.

"To date, there are 168 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 65 of them ventilated,” he added.
