SABAH REGISTERS 57 NEW COVID-19 CASES, ONE DEATH

KOTA KINABALU: The Covid-19 cases in Sabah today are down to two digits with 57 cases recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of statewide infections to 58, 372.


Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said one death was also reported in Kunak.


"Of the total, 28 were identified as close contacts, 17 detected in existing clusters, nine through symptomatic screening, and the rest from other categories," he said in a statement today.


Tawau recorded the highest number of new cases with 20, followed by Kota Kinabalu (14), Kalabakan (eight), Kunak and Lahad Datu (four), and Penampang (three).


Meanwhile, one new case was each detected in Tuaran, Putatan, Kota Belud, and Beluran.


Seventeen other districts did not report any new case, namely Kinabatangan, Sandakan, Papar, Semporna, Nabawan, Telupid, Keningau, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Ranau, Kudat, Sipitang, Pitas, Tambunan, Tenom, Kota Marudu, and Tongod.


"A total 106 patients have recovered and were discharged, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries in Sabah to 57,064.


"Meanwhile, 652 are still receiving treatment with 257 at the hospitals and 395 in quarantine centres," said Masidi.


He added that 37 patients are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 16 of them ventilated.
